Who we are Australia's natural and cultural heritage is unique. Our land and seascapes are distinctive, home to plants and animals found nowhere else in the world, and to some of the oldest living cultures on earth. These environments and cultures are an essential part of our national identity, and visitors travel from across the country and the world to experience them. The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens and 58 Australian Marine Parks established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (the Department). We work to showcase these natural and cultural wonders to the world, demonstrating to all why these places are so special, and inspiring communities to become more invested in their care and future.
The branches include the Marine and Island Parks Branch, Booderee and Business Services Branch, Northern Territory Parks (Kakadu National Park and Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park) Branch, Australian National Botanic Gardens and Partnerships Branch, and Asset Infrastructure Branch. There is also the newly-formed cross-department Ocean Coordination Unit.

The specific roles we are looking to immediately fill include: • Ocean Coordination (Ocean Coordination Unit) • Manager, Project Management Office (Asset Infrastructure Branch) • Procurement Manager (Booderee and Business Services Branch) • Divisional Coordinator (Booderee and Business Services Branch) • Cultural Heritage Manager (Booderee and Business Services Branch) • Strategic Manager (Booderee and Business Services Branch)
Assistant Directors (EL1s) with Parks Australia are responsible for: • supporting the directors in leading programs and policies that support the effective management of terrestrial and marine parks and gardens • assisting in leading a section with responsibility for distinct pieces of work • providing technical expertise to support robust decision making, policy development or project management • engaging across your branch, the division, and the department to shape the future direction of Parks Australia.
Work location This selection process will initially be used to fill ongoing vacancies in Canberra , however a merit pool will be established from this recruitment process which may be used to fill future ongoing (both regional and metropolitan) vacancies in a range of locations. These locations include Queensland, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Western Australia, South Australia, Northern Territory, Victoria, and Tasmania subject to negotiation.
